In The Beginning
Rolling Bear Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu began as Rolling Bear Adelante Jiu-Jitsu Club, a small program operating inside Adelante Barbell Club (ABC) with just two adult classes per week. Over time, our program steadily expanded to offer over 40 adult classes per month, including both beginner and advanced levels. In April 2024, we introduced kids’ classes, further strengthening our mission to share Jiu-Jitsu with all ages. Along the way, our students competed in multiple tournaments, often bringing home gold medals, and we hosted seminars featuring icons from BJJ and Judo. More than just a training space, Rolling Bear has evolved into a tight-knit community, where teammates push each other to grow on and off the mats.
At the heart of Rolling Bear BJJ is Professor Lydia (Coleman) Bergamasco, our lead instructor. Professor Lydia began her Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2013 at UFC Gym Long Island and trained under some of the sport’s most respected figures, including Plinio Cruz, Fabio Clemente, and Marcelo Garcia. After moving to New Jersey, she earned her black belt in September 2022 under Professor Fiona Rupinski of Notorious MMA. Lydia is an avid competitor, a multiple-time Worlds medalist, and a Pans Champion, bringing both experience and passion to every class.
Professor Lydia is joined by her husband, Leo Bergamasco, a dedicated brown belt. Leo started training in 2018 under Dennis Melone in Ridgefield Park, NJ, and later trained with Kevin Sheridan at Sheridan BJJ before joining Professor Fiona Rupinski at Notorious MMA. With experience both in teaching and competing, Leo continues his journey under the guidance of both Professor Fiona and his wife, Professor Lydia.
New Facility
At the end of 2024, the club was had an incredible opportunity to move into a larger facility. While still operating in Union County and in Kenilworth, we expanded into a much larger space, transforming from a small club into a full-fledged academy. This physical expansion allows us to grow our programs, introduce new services, and enhance the training experience for all our students. Rolling Bear Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is now located at 870 Boulevard Suite 4, in Kenwilworth, NJ.
